Am I the only one who actually kind of likes the whole Sami Zayn "I'm still the IC champ" angle?

NO. I love it.

It singlehandedly turned me away from rooting for heel AJ Styles to get the title back from Jeff that Jeff cheated to win to rooting for Sami coming away with the title he never lost.

i fast forwarded through 3/4ers of the show admittedly, but... why would you waste mcintyre/lee on a random episode of raw? how about keeping marquee matchups apart for a bit? hurt business coming out to confront retribution was quite good though. that group feels like stars. roman, mcintyre, orton, lee, wyatt, and hurt business feel like main eventers.

If you didn't watch I'd recommend checking out the Io Shirai/Shotzi Blackheart match from tonight's NXT - best women's match I've seen in WWE for a LONG time. Not really a fan of Shotzi's gimmick but she is one of the best in-ring performers in the women's division for sure.

"What do you want us to do? Not have a title match for 6 months?! C'mon!" - Michael Cole, regarding Sami Zayn and the argument for why he should or should not still be the IC champion.

I have an idea, what if you create an "interim" champion. I wonder if that's been done before?

*its still real to me kayfabe moment*

back in the day they used to vacate the belt if they didn't defend in 30 days. of course, that was a lot easier to "do" in those days when they didn't have 7 hours of tv every week. "he defended on a house show vs fungo bob last wednesday!"

that being said, sami as a chickenshit heel is even better than him as the underdog face in nxt, so i support anything that gets him in a decent role.

My gripe is just the lack of consistency.

I realize there's hardly a lot of consistency in this business, but when you make contradicting decisions literally side by side it stands out way too much.

They literally vacated the IC title and declared a tournament for an "interim" Cruiserweight champ within the same week after both title holders couldn't attend for an indefinite amount of time.

I mean, I realize the backstage reason was likely that Devlin had no choice but to stay away while Sami chose to isolate but that doesn't make it make any more sense in kayfabe.

what i got out of that whole situation was that backstage/vince was legit pissed that sami worked wm and then decided to go home, so they couldn't just put the strap on bryan. im hoping that now that everything has mostly gotten better, that they're not just gonna use this to bury sami in this feud and "unify" the straps... but yea, you and i both know that's probably the plan.

as for devlin... i know they were real high on him to make it an interim title, but then the whole speaking out movement against uk wrestling happened, and he was a name mentioned, and... yea, i feel like i haven't heard them mention fantasma as the interim champ since. but who knows about that one, i feel like he had a banger of a match on a uk takeover and then shit hit the fan.

Yeah, I'm curious how that goes. They just call Fantasma the champ, but if you look anything up on the internet it still gives him the "interim" tag.

Although, I just went to wwe.com and if you go to the champions page it shows both Devlin and Santos, but then if you click on it you only see stuff about Santos.

The members of RETRIBUTION have new names, and they’re…something. During the main event of tonight’s Raw, the three men in the group faced Hurt Business in a tag team match during which we learned the names for the three. According to the commentary, Dio Maddin is now known as MACE while Dominik Dijakovic is going by T-BAR. The full-masked man, believed to be Shane Thorne, is now being referred to as SLAPJACK.
So we're going with circus clowns, good call.

And the women in the group are Mia Yim and Mercedes Martinez.

So...Keith Lee's girlfriend is a part of the group, and is Martinez still going to be pulling double duty for the Robert Stone Brand?
